Rheumatoid factor is an IgM autoantibody directed against the Fc portion of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) and is found in more than two-thirds of adults with Rheumatoid arthritis. Detection of RF is one of the criteria of the American Rheumatology Association (ARA) for the diagnosis of Rheumatoid arthritis. The presence of Rheumatoid factor is of prognostic significance as well, since patients with high titres tend to have more severe and progressive disease.
